Assistive technology (AT) refers to equipment, devices or systems that help a person perform tasks more safely, easily or independently in everyday life.
Assistive Technology is funded under the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme, part of the Support at Home program to enable safety, accessibility and independence at home.
Positive Step provides mobile occupational therapy services across Perth, enabling older adults to access the right assistive technology to maximise safety, independence and confidence at home.
How we assess and recommend equipment
We take a practical, individualised approach to ensure any equipment recommended is appropriate for your needs, home environment and daily routine.
This begins with an assessment of how you currently manage everyday tasks, where difficulties or risks exist, and what changes would make the biggest difference to your safety and independence. From this, we recommend assistive technology that is realistic, effective and aligned with your goals.
Our occupational therapists support you through the full process of trialling, prescribing and implementing assistive technology. This may include:
- Assessment and prescription of appropriate equipment
- Education for clients and families on safe and effective use
- Liaison with suppliers and care teams
- Coordination of equipment delivery and setup
- Follow-up to ensure equipment is suitable and meeting your needs
