Our OT services

What we do and who we support

OT helps individuals participate in meaningful daily activities by improving function, independence, and well-being. “Occupation” refers to everyday activities that people need or want to do, such as work, self-care, and leisure.

Occupational therapy focuses on practical, real-world outcomes. This may involve assessing your current abilities, identifying barriers in your environment, recommending equipment or home modifications, and developing strategies to improve independence and safety in daily life.

Referrals

How to refer or get started

You do not need a referral to access OT services privately. However, if you’re using funding through Support at Home, NDIS, DVA, or insurance, a referral is required. Check with your provider, support coordinator or GP. If you are an NDIS participant with no support coordinator, you are most welcome to self-refer.
You can make a referral by completing the relevant Referral Form on our website. Depending on the funding source, we accept self-referrals, as well as referrals from aged care providers, doctors, support coordinators, family members, and other allied health professionals.
Our team will review the referral and contact you to confirm suitability, funding details and availability. We will then outline the next steps and timeframes.
Wait times vary depending on the service and location within Perth. Please contact our team for current availability.

Appointments

What to expect from your sessions

Positive Step is a mobile occupational therapy provider. Appointments are delivered in your home or community setting across the Perth metropolitan area. Telehealth may be available where appropriate.
Your first session is usually an initial assessment. Your therapist will discuss your goals, observe daily tasks and identify any barriers, then recommend appropriate supports or next steps.
Sessions are typically 1 to 2 hours, depending on the service. Some assessments may require longer or multiple sessions.
This depends on your goals, needs and funding. Some clients require short-term input, while others benefit from ongoing support.
We require at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a fee.
Funding

How services are funded and billed

Positive Step provides occupational therapy services under NDIS, aged care, DVA, workers compensation, ICWA and private arrangements.
Yes, Positive Step is an NDIS-registered provider delivering services to self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed participants.
Costs depend on the type of service and funding pathway. NDIS services are charged in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements. Please contact us for specific pricing.
Payment arrangements vary depending on funding. This may include direct invoicing to the NDIS, plan managers or private payment.
NDIS funding is often released in stages rather than all at once. This means only part of your budget is available at a time, which can affect how services are scheduled and delivered.
Assessments

Understanding assessments and supports

An initial assessment is a detailed evaluation of your current abilities, challenges and goals. It helps guide therapy and recommendations.
An FCA is a comprehensive assessment of your ability to complete everyday tasks. It is commonly used for NDIS access, plan reviews and funding applications.
Not always, but it can provide supporting evidence for applications or plan reviews.
Home modifications are changes to your environment to improve safety and accessibility, ranging from minor adjustments to more complex structural changes.
Assistive technology includes equipment that supports independence in daily tasks, from simple aids to more complex mobility solutions.
Capacity building funding supports therapy aimed at improving independence and functional skills over time.
A service agreement outlines the services to be provided, including scope, costs and responsibilities.
