DVA Occupational Therapy
for veterans and eligible clients
Positive Step provides mobile occupational therapy services across Perth for veterans and eligible clients under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). Since 2010, we have supported the veteran community with services tailored to the unique and often complex needs of veterans and their families.
All Positive Step occupational therapists are registered DVA providers, delivering services to eligible veterans and war widows/widowers. Our focus is on supporting safe, independent living through practical, high-quality assessment and intervention.
Accessing services through DVA
Eligible clients can access occupational therapy through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, including support under the Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP).
RAP is a DVA-funded program that provides equipment, aids and home modifications to improve safety, accessibility and independence in daily life.
Positive Step works with you to assess your needs and provide appropriate recommendations aligned with DVA requirements.
Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP)
The RAP program supports a wide range of equipment and modifications prescribed by an occupational therapist. Depending on your needs, this may include:
- Assistive equipment such as mobility aids, shower chairs and hospital beds
- Home modifications including grab rails, ramps and accessible bathroom upgrades
- Pressure care equipment such as cushions and mattresses
- Seating and positioning supports
- Continence aids and daily living equipment
- Falls prevention equipment
- Personal response systems
All recommendations are based on your functional needs, environment and daily routine.
How we support DVA clients
Positive Step provides comprehensive assessment, prescription and implementation support for DVA-funded services.
We assess how you manage everyday activities, identify any risks or challenges, and recommend practical solutions to improve safety and independence. Assessments can be completed in your home, workplace, supplier settings or other relevant environments to ensure recommendations are appropriate and effective.
We also liaise with suppliers and other professionals where needed to support smooth implementation of equipment or modifications.
