Vision Loss
Does your vision make it difficult to do day-to-day activities?
An Occupational Therapist can help in many ways:
- We can train you to use reduced visual fields more effectively and help you compensate for low vision so you can do more for yourself.
- We can assist you to read your mail, recipes, text messages on your phone, and information on the computer such as emails.
- There is a lot of equipment and assistance to compensate for difficulty with reading or to write. For example, using voice commands, inbuilt technology in smart devices such as screen readers and magnifying the screen, use of electronic magnifiers and applications that can read for you and can identify items such as items in your pantry.
- We can provide training and equipment to help with commonly experienced issues. Some examples of this are techniques and equipment to cut up food safely, large remotes to operate your TV, finding items such as your house keys, adding markings to equipment to make them easier to use and assisting with using your telephone.
A person with low vision often requires additional lighting and we can provide a lighting assessment.
We are driven to achieve the best outcomes for people so if you would like to discuss how we could help you, please contact us.
