National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing individualised support for people with disability, their families and carers. The NDIS will provide all Australians with a permanent and significant disability, aged under 65, with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live an ordinary life. The NDIS is being progressively rolled-out across Australia and Western Australia.

Positive Step occupational therapists have been working with the NDIA since 2017 and work hard to keep up to date on ways to navigate the NDIS system as efficiently as possible.  We work closely with our clients to assist them with the NDIS system and to achieve their goals.  We are NDIS registered providers of Occupational Therapy.

We are able to complete comprehensive functional assessments and occupational therapy reports prior to your NDIS planning meeting to ensure that all of your equipment and functional needs are considered in the planning meeting and included in your plan for the year.

OT services available to participants under the NDIS include:

• Functional assessment.  This takes place at your home and provides us with useful information on how you perform your everyday activities.  Together we problem solve how your independence can be maximised.
• Therapy sessions in the home towards capacity building and participation in the activities of daily living, which are important to you.
• Intervention and retraining to help achieve your goals, within the home, work and community environments.
• Prescription of assistive technology, including simple and complex adaptive aids and equipment, such as bathroom equipment, mobility aids, electric beds,  electric and manual wheelchairs and seating systems. We are experienced in completing the Assistive Technology (AT) funding applications within the NDIS and have had great success in obtaining equipment for people due to our comprehensive assessment, clinical justification and report writing skills.
• We have up to date knowledge of innovations in equipment and technology and how this could potentially transform your life.
• Functional assessment towards the end of the year’s plan to set future goals for the next plan.
