    Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
    Rehabilitation
    Maximise your independence

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Rehabilitation

If you have experienced a brain injury, it is our passion to help you return to leading the life you want to lead. This includes your daily routine and valued daily activities.  As experienced occupational therapists in Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation (ABI), our ultimate aim is to maximise your independence doing the everyday activities that you want and need to be able to do.

We can help you achieve this in the following way:

  • We will work together to determine your problem areas or areas of concern following your brain injury. These may include cognitive, physical, sensory, perceptual and social difficulties.
  • We will work together to develop goals to overcome these areas of concern and set timeframes to meet these goals.
  • We will come to your home and practice the skills that you want to improve on – this may include feeding yourself, dressing yourself, transferring, organising and planning your day, cooking, driving, returning to work or studies. You decide on the activities, which are most important and meaningful to you.
  • We will devise a rehabilitation programme specific to your needs. We will work closely with your family and carers to ensure the success of your rehabilitation. We monitor this programme regularly to ensure your goals are being met.
  • As acquired brain injury rehabilitation occupational therapists we can provide tailored therapy including, cognitive retraining, functional retraining of everyday skills, training on transfers and using equipment to maximise independence, community reintegration e.g. transport training, team/family meetings and engaging services e.g. driver OT assessment or vehicle modifications.
  • We are experts in equipment and adaptive technology, which can help you to regain your independence. We can organise equipment trials to ensure that the equipment will meet your needs before purchase. This may include wheelchair prescription, pressure care, commodes and transfer equipment.
  • We are skilled in home modification and adaptation and can problem solve changes to your home to maximise your function and independence.
  • Our clients with brain injury and other professionals working within this clinical area hold us in very high regard. We are recognised for our expertise and professionalism. We are members of the Brain Injury Interest Group of WA.  All of our occupational therapists are registered with APHRA and have membership with National and State Associations. Our occupational therapists keep up to date with the latest research and technological advancements.
  • We have strong working relationships with the Insurance Commission of WA (ICWA), the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS and NDIA) Public Hospitals, and personal injury lawyers.
