Living with hearing loss can impact on our function and we may begin to feel socially isolated and afraid. Are you struggling to follow conversations or can’t hear your door bell ringing? If you have said yes to any of these questions don’t worry as there are solutions to help you to remain safe at home. Some of these solutions include the Bellman and Symfon Products.

The Bellman’s visit Pager is small, light-weight and can be carried in your pocket or on your pocket. It notifies you with vibrations and a lighted symbol when a Visit transmitter is being activated. For example if your doorbell rings a light will show under the doorbell sign on your pager.

The Bellman’s Ring Door Bell Kit allows a person to be notified via the pager and flashing receiver if the door bell is ringing. The ring video doorbell includes HD camera, night vision, and motion detection so you know who is at your front door at all times. It has a built-in rechargeable battery operated and therefore no wires to connect. It has two-Way audio therefore a person via their mobile can see and speak to whoever is at her front door without having to place themselves at risk. It also allows a person to answer their door bell when they aren’t home. The device is set up using WIFI.

The Bellmans Visit Alarm Clock has a loud (100dB) alarm and strong vibrating bed shaker. It also has a connection for the telephone line, so you can be alerted to phone calls, and an external input socket for connection to other Bellman Visit devices such as the mobile phone sensor. This alarm clock and bed shaker will alert a person to devices at night time whilst they are sleeping in particular fire alarms.

Finally the Bellman Vibio Bluetooth Alarm Clock is a device which will alert you to messages and phonecalls on your mobile whilst you are asleep. It will also alert you to alarm clocks. A wireless bed shaker that goes under your pillow and vibrates to wake you up and alert you to calls. Rather than placing your mobile under your pillow this is a safer way of being alerted.

All these items are available to trial and our experienced occupational therapists can help to find the right product for you. If you are struggling with any of the above issues and need some help to find a solution.. give us a call on 9341 7304.

The post Hearing Loss and solutions to stay safe at home. first appeared on Positive Step.

We’ve recently been made aware about new changing places around Perth and WA for people with disability who need space and assistance to use the bathroom when out and about in the community. The changing places are locked using a master locksmith access key (MLAK) – the key keeps the areas secure and safe and reserved for the people who really need them.

Companion cardholders who need to use a hoist, an adult change table or need room for two people to assist are encouraged to obtain a key. Please contact National Disability Services on 9242 5544 or email: wa@companioncard.asn.au. This offer is open until 31 July 2018. After this date, MLAK keys can be purchased from Master Locksmiths.

The changing places will not replace standard universal accessible toilets. All changing places have the same specifications so that people who use them can be assured that all changing places provide the same facilities. All changing places include an adult size, height adjustable change table, a hoist and enough room for two people to assist.

Some changing places will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while others will be available during the opening hours where they are located. If you already have a key for the Liberty Swings – the same key can access the changing places.

Changing Places are now open at Bibra Lake, BP The Lakes, Deep Water Point, Elizabeth Quay, Lakeside Joondalup, Mandurah Foreshore, Vicinity Mandurah, Optus Stadium, Sorrento Beach, Yagan Square, Collie, Geraldton, Guilderton, Meckering and Toodyay.

Changing Places are currently planned in Nedlands, East Perth, Scarborough, Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Katanning, Moora, Narrogin and Port Hedland. More Changing Places are expected to be built in Western Australia. Changing Place locations will be listed on https://changingplaces.org.au/find-changing-places-toilet/ and https://toiletmap.gov.au/

We are so delighted to hear about this initiative, which will allow people to keep as active as possible in the community. Don’t forget to apply for your key before 31st July 2018 !

If you would like further information on how to maximise your functional potential in the community please contact us on 0405 732 247.
